What is Postpartum Belly Binding?

Postpartum belly binding is a tradition used in many cultures around the world for healing after birth.

Binding the hips and belly for 40 consecutive days postpartum offers support, stability and comfort to the muscles, skin and internal organs.

During pregnancy, the vertical abdominal muscles widen and thin to accommodate growing babies, which can result in diastasis recti (where ab muscles separate and may stay separated if not properly cared for postpartum), back issues, hernias and bulging of the abdomen.

Binding is a terrific way to help the muscle walls while healing and also supporting your spine and posture. There is a thought that binding also helps with emotional healing after pregnancy.

Many birthing people report binding to be effective in healing and comfort after a miscarriage, during menstruation, cesarean
and hysterectomy.

And most of all, belly binding feels really good.

What Does A Belly Binding Package Include?

Many of our birth and postpartum packages have belly binding included. This is because we know most birthing people are focused on caring for their new baby and don't have the time to do research on all the benefits of a belly bind.

Whether it's part of your package or you're interested in belly binding as an individual service, you're going to get the following:

  • Wrap: An eco-friendly, hand-dyed, 17-yard cotton wrap in your color choice.

  • Private Binding Session and Instruction: We come to your house with all the supplies. We will wrap you and teach you how to wrap yourself.

  • We remain available after your bind for questions and support.
